Eco-Congregation and the Green Team

We are an Eco-Congregation!

Balerno Parish Church are a registered member of Eco-Congregation Scotland. Click here to see our certificate. This is a comprehensive programme implemented via 13 modules which aims to develop awareness and help identify actions for reducing the environmental impact of church related activities. To work through the key aspects of the Eco-Congregation programme the “Green Team” was assembled and the following mission statement defined for the activities of this group.

Balerno Parish Church Green Team Mission Statement:

“To promote environmental awareness and to help implement the agreed
environmental goals of Balerno Parish Church and our wider community”.

eco-congregation_award_picturemOver the course of the next 12 months and beyond, the Green Team will be using the Eco-Congregation resource tools to help create a comprehensive action plan and to demonstrate progress towards achieving the next award level which is the Bronze Award.

Some of the things the church will be doing include:

  • Further developing recycling facilities within the church buildings for paper, stamps & printer cartridges· Reducing waste generated at the Christmas Fair by increasing the amount of recycling.
  • Regularly incorporating environmental themes into Worship and All-age education groups
  • Promoting awareness of environmental matters within the Children’s and Youth groups
  • Supporting WWF Earth Hour each year
