The next collection of household goods for Fresh Start will take place in the Old Hall (behind the church) on the following dates:
Friday 5th May 10am – 12noon
Saturday 6th May 10am – 12noon
Sunday 7th May 9.30am – 12noon
Donations of useful, clean household items are gratefully received and will be given to newly housed people who have nothing. Also offers to sort and pack are much appreciated.
Please donate goods which are in good, clean condition and please consider donating household cleaning items if you have no household goods e.g. crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, bedding, curtains, towels or small electrical items. Please, no furniture or televisions and unfortunately cushions can no longer be accepted.

Congratulations to Dementia Friendly Pentlands – runners up in the Scotland’s Dementia Awards Best Dementia Friendly Community Initiativecategory. This is just recognition for the time and imagination that has been put into developing Dementia Friendly Pentlands, which has its roots in The Palm cafe.
Following a very interesting Dinner Discussion about The Seagull Trust in April was a Canal Cruise.
First is the assembled company – couldn’t get boat three passengers into the picture – think they’d been washed overboard.
Second is the good ship St John Edinburgh with Captain Conway aboard while the third is of the winner of the ‘best nautical hat competition’ as adjudged by Seagull Trust, the Fearless and Dreadful Captain Conway. Not many nautical hats in pics 1 and 2 I know but when donned they did range from the debonair panama to the 10 gallon sou’wester to the antique breton cap to the colour coded Laing option of which sadly no photographic record is available. And the 4th pic is tying up at the end of an enjoyable trip before repairing to the Bridge Inn.
36 passengers on board three vessels – good craic bringing the 15/16 Dinner Discussion series to a close! But we’ll be back in September!
A huge thank you to everyone at Balerno Parish Church and the local community for once again holding a huge Starter Packs collection for Fresh Start! Every time it seems we have to squeeze that bit more into the van! A particular thank you as ever to Maureen and Alan Woodburn for all their hard work coordinating the collection.

Fresh Start is a local charity who supply necessary household goods to homeless people, newly housed, who have nothing.
Please donate goods which are useful and in good clean condition. If you have no household goods e.g. crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, bedding, curtains or small electrical items, please consider donating household cleaning items.
Please, no televisions or furniture.
Goods which are in short supply at present are pots, frying pans, dish cloths and dusters.
Also needed are clothes, shoes, handbags etc. These are sold by weight and the money is used to buy goods for Starter Packs.
Your donations will be sorted and packed by local volunteers and taken to Fresh Start premises ready for distribution to homeless people who have just been allocated somewhere to live.
Everything you give is most gratefully received, both by Fresh Start and by the homeless people who are trying to make a Fresh Start.
