Huge thanks from the Fairtrade Village Group to everyone who made yesterday’s Fairtrade Morning such a success: customers, stallholders, workers with kids; poets, school staff, and competition judges; settersup, clearers-up, washers-up and cashers-up; photographer, sound technician, amazing Guild refreshers and all other bakers; welcomers, our Market Traders’ Licence Magician, and too many other kind helpers to mention – we know who you are, and it could never have happened without you! More details as soon as we have them, and there may be extra baking with today’s coffee.
Please go on choosing Fairtrade/fairly traded goods when you shop too. Balerno knows one village can’t ‘sort it’, but every little bit adds up. FT pays fairly, enabling producers to support their families and communities; many other food buyers don’t. Why bother? How many people still face severe poverty worldwide right now? Rory Stewart MP, Minister of State for International Development, last week said 700 million, including many who help produce our food. Too big to take in – but every number means individuals, family members. Just like us.
