The Bursary was established in 2015 to commemorate the life and work of Reverend Louise Duncan, our Minister from 2010 to 2015. Each year, a Bursary of £500 will be awarded to a person under the age of 25, living in Balerno or adjoining areas, to help them to meet the cost of travel out with Scotland to take part in voluntary work for the benefit of disadvantaged communities.
Applications are now open for the 2017 Bursary, and should be made on the form available here. Please return the completed form by February 24th 2017 to Patrick Green, Joint Session Clerk (email: email@example.com), who will also be happy to answer any inquiries about the scheme or the application procedure.
Travel supported by the Bursary must take place during 2017. The successful applicant will be expected to make a written report on the work that the Church’s support helped them to undertake, and will be encouraged to give a spoken presentation about it at a Sunday service and/or to Church organisations.
After the closing date, shortlisted candidates will be asked to meet a small group of Church members to make a short presentation and answer questions about their travel plans. The successful applicant will be announced by the end of March.
It is a condition of the Bursary that a successful applicant who for any reason does not take part in their travel project is required to return the full amount to Balerno Parish Church.
