Many people will be aware that the Church of Scotland has embarked on a radical programme of cost reduction and refocusing of its mission and resources to take account of today’s requirements.  This page provides links to all the formal communications between Balerno Parish Church and presbyteries of Edinburgh, and Edinburgh and West Lothian on the matter.  There is also informed opinion and comment in the editions of the Balerno blether (The church magazine).

1st August 2024. Towards Our Union – a progress statement from our Interim Moderators.

28th September 2022, The Presbytery of Edinburgh and West Lothian issue Presbytery Mission Plan Working Document, this document supersedes the Consultation Paper that was issued by Edinburgh Presbytery in December 2021.

1st June 2022, meeting with members of the Deployment Group in St Joseph’s at 7.30. Open to all members

In May 2022, an Update from Convener of Deployment Group was received.

In March 2022, a final submission was prepared and delivered to presbytery, it is in two parts.  Part 1 and part 2.

In February 2022 the Presbytery subcommittee submitted its answers to our questions. 

In January 2022 Edinburgh Presbytery ceased to exist, it became the Presbytery of Edinburgh and West Lothian.  West Lothian Presbytery had also produced a plan.

In December 2021 Edinburgh Presbytery issued its Consultation Paper on how the changes would affect the church in Edinburgh.
The implications for our congregation, if the plan is not changed, are considerable and the church office bearers promptly gave an initial response.  This was followed in January with a detailed response from the Kirk Session asking a number of specific questions.
