On Sunday 4th August we celebrated two happy events.
One of our members, Rev Gordon McGillivray, has been ordained longer than any other living minister of the Church of Scotland and is now Father of the Kirk. Gordon was ordained in 1950 and as well as the parish ministry he had a long and distinguished career in church administration including 20 years as Clerk to the Presbytery of Edinburgh and 22 years as Depute Clerk to the General Assembly. He was also greatly appreciated when he was our Locum Minister in 2000-2001.
As well as celebrating Gordon’s new title with cake we also celebrated the introduction of our new Locum Minister Derek Munn who will be with us for some months.

I stumbled upon this joyous announcement today and was delighted to see the celebration for Rev Gordon McGilivray, my “uncle” Gordon.
Gordon & his wife, Winnie, were friends of my parents, Murray & Doreen Ross of Montrose. I recall many exchanged visits, and it was Uncle Gordon who officiated at my wedding in 1984.
If he recalls my family, he may be interested to know my youngest son has recently received his first call to position as pastor with First Baptist Church Masaryktown, Florida. May God bless him and all at Balerno.
