Balerno Parish Church’s congregation and friends donated £1,040 during May’s Christian Aid and many thanks to all who gave. The bucket at the Farmers Market will need more of a push next year, if we decide to do it, but our “e-envelope” was more popular than in previous years. The majority of this year’s donations came via the envelopes put out for Sunday service congregations to take home and return. Thank you everyone, however you chose to give.
Christian Aid works for long-term change for people living in poverty. As well as raising money for projects and relief work (76p in every £1 donated) and campaigns, advocacy and education (8p in every £1 donated), Christian Aid Week is when the charity puts special effort into raising its profile nationwide and connecting with congregations in churches all across the UK.
Violent earthquakes happened on the Turkey-Syria border area in February this year, Cyclone Freddy spent 5-6 weeks in the Southeast of the Indian Ocean causing the most pain to people in Malawi and since then the thousands of people displaced after the destruction in Ukraine of the Nova Kakhovka dam has become a Christian Aid emergency appeal.
