I’m writing from the Planetary Healing Centre about Growing Food at Home, a free or by donation four-session project that helps people learn to grow food where they live. It is run in partnership with The Free Company and funded by ECCAN Greenlight.
We are looking for participants from Balerno, Currie, Pentlands, Wester Hailes, Sighthill, and Kirknewton.
The details
What: four hands-on sessions on soil health, composting, seed planning, growing and tree planting. They suit windowsills, balconies, small gardens, allotments, pots and polytunnels. Everyone leaves with a plan for what to grow this season, plus a WhatsApp group for peer support.
When: Thursdays, 10am to 1pm
– 26 November 2026: introduction to growing principles and a farm tour
– 4 February 2027: assessing your site, tools and compost; choosing crops
– 18 February 2027: tree planting and Q&A (weather permitting)
– 4 March 2027: sowing seeds, crop planning and plant care
Where: Free Company, Cockdurno Farm, Balerno, EH14 7HZ. Free parking on site, and buses 44 and 44A stop in the village.
Cost: free, with donations welcomed. Anyone facing financial hardship can book a free place.
Who: all levels, no experience needed. We especially want to reach people affected by poverty, trauma or isolation. Places are limited to 16, and we hope people can come to all four sessions.
